After looking for steel fire pits at several stores that cost several hundred dollars, I decided to make one myself. I didn’t like the looks or size of the store-bought ones.
So another visit to the Stone and Landscape place resulted in finding enough large rocks for a 4 foot diameter fire pit for less than $100. Since my rocks were roundish instead of flat, I had to put concrete between them to hold the rocks in place and get the overall round shape. The Back Saving Hand Truck Adapter (shown as another project) will help you mix several small batches of concrete as needed without straining your back.
The result is a pleasant looking fire pit that looks natural and can be built in a day for not much money.
